چکیده

Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems are recently being recognized for achieving simultaneous transmissions on wireless channels that overlap in time. As a result, new scheduling mechanisms are required that coordinate these multiple transmissions among wireless stations which share a single wireless channel. This paper proposes a new distributed MIMO-aware media access control (MA-MAC) scheme which will allow two simultaneous transmissions when stations are equipped with MIMO. The proposed MA-MAC scheme is compatible with the existing IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless local area networks (WLANs). It uses weighted nulling and intelligent packet fragmentation for its operation. Detailed performance analysis of MA-MAC scheme is carried out using the NS-2 network simulator. Firstly, this paper presents the concept of weighted nulling that is necessary for simultaneous transmissions on wireless channel, followed by a detailed description of the proposed MA-MAC scheme. Secondly, it presents the performance of MA-MAC scheme under various network scenarios that includes both saturated and unsaturated conditions. This paper presents the performance improvements shown by MA-MAC when compared with an existing media access control scheme which is also proposed for scheduling simultaneous transmissions for MIMO.

Performance characterization of CSMA/CA adapted multi-user MIMO aware MAC in WLANs

To realize the multi-user multiple input multiple output (MIMO) advantage over WLANs, it requires significant changes in the MAC protocol. Either the dominant MAC protocol carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) needs to be replaced by a novel multi-user MIMO aware MAC protocol or it should be upgraded into multi-user MIMO aware CSMA/CA. Nevertheless, the simplest approach w...

Performance Evaluation of XMAC and BMAC Routing Protocol under Static and Mobility Scenarios in Wireless Sensor Network

Based on application requirements, nodes are static or mobile in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Mobility poses challenges in protocol design, especially at the link layer requiring mobility adaptation algorithms to localize mobile nodes and predict link quality to be established with them. This study implements XMAC and Berkeley Media Access Control (BMAC) routing protocols to evaluate perfor...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
